What is kinesiology?
In the purest form, kinesiology is the study of muscles and movement. When used in a clinical setting, it becomes an evaluation and treatment tool for restoring overall health balance to the body. Its beginnings originated in the 1960s as a clinical science from work performed by Dr. George Goodheart. Over time, many branches have developed with different specialties. To date, there are around 80 different types of kinesiology. Many colleges offer kinesiology degrees that are more focused on sports physiology. This is different than the clinical use of kinesiology.

Some refer to the use of kinesiology in the clinical setting as "muscle testing". Others refer to these techniques as specialized kinesiology. At a basic level, it is the art and science of using neuromuscular feedback from the body to achieve optimal health.

Coaching concentrates on where clients are today and what they are willing to do to get where they want to be tomorrow.

Areas of focus could include the following:

  • Confidence and self esteem
  • Career
  • Relationships
  • Communication skills
  • Losing weight/health

  • Money/Finance
  • Getting what you want in life

What is reflexology?

Reflexology is a system of applying pressure to certain points on the hands and feet (and occasionally the ears).

Based on the same theories of traditional Chinese medicine as acupressure, specific points on the feet and hands are regarded as corresponding to organs and tissues in the body. Stimulating these points has a beneficial effect on the area of the body connected with the specific reflex.

What is Shiatsu?
A Japanese bodywork technique, Shiatsu uses pressure to stimulate points on acupuncture meridians. Practice of shiatsu is usually accompanied by study of Chinese five-element theory and meridians, and it involves a way of looking at the body that is completely different from the "muscles, bones and blood" view of Western science, focusing instead on the flow of life energy through meridians.

How is Shiatsu practiced?
The practitioner uses thumbs, palms and fingers to apply pressure to specific points. The touch is generally more forceful than massage. Rather than use a massage table, shiatsu practitioners may have the patient rest on a pad on the floor. This allows practitioners to use their own body to brace the patient during certain stretches.

What is sound healing ?
Sound healing uses toning, chanting, or vibrations from the voice or instruments to stimulate the body's own ability to heal itself. Sound healing and music boost are known to boost the immune system, regulate respiration, lower blood pressure, alleviate pain, reduce stress, and promote endurance. Practitioners work with the belief that each cell in the body is a sound resonator and has its own pulse, pattern and cycle. Recently new sound therapies have been developed based upon the theories of acupuncture, where sound is used to stimulate certain points on the body.

How is sound healing practiced?
Sound or music therapy has been used by health professionals in private practice, hospitals, schools, nurseries, birthing centers, hospices, and psychotherapeutic settings. The type of sound and technique varies by training and the practitioner's professional background.

What is prenatal massage?
Prenatal massage is a massage given during pregnancy as the body of a mother-to-be goes through some dramatic changes in preparation for childbirth. As a result, prenatal massage is becoming increasingly popular among expectant mother's as a way to use massage techniques and therapeutic bodywork to focus on the special needs of mother-to-be. This type of massage is also known as pregnancy massage.

There are a number of ways pregnancy massage can be performed such as having an expectant woman lie on her side for the massage. Also, there are specially designed pillows which allow expectant moms to be flat on their stomachs for a back massage.

What are the benefits of prenatal massage?

  • Prenatal massage helps to reduce stress, decrease swelling in the arms, legs and feet and relieves aches and pains in muscles and joints by increasing the circulation of blood and oxygen throughout the body.
  • Prenatal massage helps to offer much needed relief from headaches, cramps, chronic back, neck, pelvis and joint pain that often goes hand-in-hand with a pregnancy, especially in later trimesters. Massage offers a natural, alternative choice for pain relief because taking medications are often limited during a pregnancy for the sake of the unborn child.
  • Massage therapy can help to minimize anxiety and depression during a pregnancy and is extremely beneficial in helping to reduce the effects of post-partum depression.
  • In later trimesters, when the unborn child is becoming more active, massage and tranquil music help the baby to relax as well and give the expectant mother a break from the constant kicking and moving around in the womb.
  • Prenatal massage enhances the pliability of skin and underlying tissues which continues to uncomfortably stretch during a pregnancy. Applying Coca butter can be soothing and help reduce stretch marks after birth.
  • In many cases, having massage during a pregnancy can improve the outcome of natural childbirth and eases labor pain.
  • In addition to the psychical benefits, prenatal massage provides expecting women with the emotional support and nurturing touch provided by non-sexual human touch and energy.

A study conducted by Dr. Tiffany Field at the University of Miami School of Medicine showed that prenatal massage actually reduces stress hormones in the body. According to the study, "touch is vital to the mother's physical and emotional well-being as she adapts to her new body image. Regardless of individual circumstances, a pregnant woman's body is challenged, changed and stressed in many ways. Massage gives special attention to the mother-to-be, which in turn nurtures the new life that grows within her."

What is spiritual healing?
This form of healing, which is not to be confused with spiritualism, uses a holistic approach, helping a person to return to the harmony of body, mind and spirit. The channeling of energies by the healer re-energizes the patient to deal with illness or injury. Healing often helps with the speed and extent of recovery from serious illness and major surgery and from the effects of treatments such as chemotherapy and radiation therapy. It complements allopathic and alternative medicine.

Healers see the body, mind and spirit as one interdependent unit and believe all three must work in harmony to maintain positive health. Any problem, from a broken leg to depression needs the power of healing to restore the balance of the whole person. Some feel that sickness often starts in the mind, or at the deeper level of the spirit, and it is often here that healing begins.

How is spiritual healing practiced?
The channel is usually a person, whom we call a healer, and the healing energy is usually transferred to the client through the healer's hands. The healing does not come from the healer, but through him/her. When a healer lays his hand the client he/she acts as a conductor or channel for the healing energy which he/she believes has the "intelligence" to go where it is needed.

Within Spiritual Healing there are specific healing techniques for each level of the human energy field. For a spiritual healer, healing includes sensing, cleansing, balancing, repairing and charging the field. The healing energy moves through all levels of this field, those that correspond not only to the client's physical, emotional and mental nature, but to his/her spiritual nature and basic beliefs in reality.
